Assuring You Meet Grant Application Prerequisites

Grant requirements are formidable and require a detailed and actionable plan. In order to be considered for a Cybersecurity grant, Tribes must demonstrate they have:

  • A Tribal Council/governing body that includes a Grants Administrator and CIO/CISO or equivalent with IT expertise.
  • A Cybersecurity Planning Committee
  • A Cybersecurity Plan (complete with Best Practices) and Charter that meet Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) standards
  • Detailed Project Plans with Investment Justifications that explain how the funds will be used and why, when, in what order, and by whom.

What is the Tribal Cybersecurity Grant Program (TCGP) and who is eligible to apply?

The TCGP is a funding initiative announced by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in September of 2023 aimed at aiding tribal leaders in safeguarding their communities against cyber-attacks. Eligible applicants must meet the definition of a Federally Recognized Tribal Government.

 

Will FEMA offer additional rounds of funding for the Tribal Cybersecurity Grant Program beyond the initial FY 2023 funding?

While the specific amounts are not confirmed, the multi-year appropriations and FEMA’s own communications indicate the Tribal Cybersecurity Grant Program will likely have additional application rounds and funding available in fiscal years beyond 2023. REDW continues to monitor FEMA and CISA communications for announcements of future funding opportunities and are proactively assisting Tribes in the application process.
