On March 25, the National Indian Health Board (NIHB) sent a letter to tribal leaders sharing details from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) about a new, non-competitive funding opportunity for tribes. The letter comes in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and more details are expected to be released on March 30, 2020.
In the meantime, administrative and grant managers can make sure your tribal health organization is eligible and ready to apply. Follow the steps below now to avoid delays in accessing, applying for, and receiving awards. Otherwise, creating or updating your account can take 3-14 business days to process.
- Obtain a Data Universal Numbering System (DUNS) – there is no charge to set this up.
- Register for a System for Award Management (SAM) account – if you are already registered, ensure that your account is active at least through June 2020.
- Register your organization on gov – registration can be completed in minutes.
The CDC is taking a multifaceted approach to provide COVID-19 funding to Indian Country. This approach aims to get public health resources out quickly during the COVID-19 declared emergency, and enables broad access and opportunity for COVID-19 resources across tribal nations.
