Mike Chelius, CPA
Mike Chelius has more than 20 years of tax accounting expertise and is a technical expert on tax issues related to privately held businesses in construction, real estate, retail, advertising agencies, and other professional services. As a member of REDW’s commercial accounting practice, he is respected for his ability to assist clients in expanding their businesses and preserving and growing their financial assets.
Mike provides a wide range of tax consulting services, both corporate and personal, including tax planning, projections, preparation, retirement planning, and succession planning. He provides clients with a maximum deduction profile by proactively analyzing complex elements of a business’ financial situation and plan in order to align the owners’ financial goals with tax efficient planning. With his superior knowledge of tax planning strategies, he specializes in helping clients defer or avoid taxes, which includes increasing and accelerating tax deductions and tax credits and taking full advantage of beneficial tax-law provisions.
What clients appreciate the most about Mike is his interpersonal style, which they describe as practical, expert, patient, and transparent in all dealings and inquiries. Mike is able to distill complex tax and business reporting requirements down to simple facts, and help clients understand and implement strategies to address them.
Master of Accounting with a concentration in Taxation and Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of New Mexico’s Anderson School of Management.
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND MEMBERSHIPS
A Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Mike is a member of the New Mexico Society of Certified Public Accountants (NMSCPA) and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). He also serves as the Treasurer and Director of the Rio Rancho Regional Chamber of Commerce Board and is a 2009 graduate of its Leadership Sandoval County program.
PUBLICATIONS AND SPEAKING ENGAGEMENTS
Mike has served as an Adjunct Professor at the University of New Mexico where he taught a course on individual tax preparation. He enjoys speaking to local business associations on key topics related to corporate taxation.
Mike is a passionate advocate of the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization and is a mentor in the Mentor 2.0 program.
