REDW Promotes 25 Professionals Firm-Wide

Albuquerque, N.M. and Phoenix, Ariz. – January 27, 2020 – REDW LLC, one of the Southwest’s 10 largest and fastest growing certified public accounting and business advisory firms, has promoted 25 professionals across multiple practice areas in its Albuquerque and Phoenix offices. (This announcement does not include three new Principals of the firm; they are highlighted in a separate news release.) REDW is recognized for regularly acknowledging and rewarding the professional achievements of its team members. These high-performing individuals are listed below, by practice area and position.

Audit & Assurance

Haesun Chung, CPA to Audit Manager in Albuquerque. With more than nine years of accounting, auditing and consulting experience, Haesun works primarily for governments and nonprofit clients. Her portfolio includes work for the Office of the Special Trustee for American Indians (OST). She has a Master of Accountancy from the University of New Mexico.

Evan Kitsos, CPA to Audit Manager in Albuquerque. Evan specializes in audit and attestation services for the firm’s commercial, governmental and nonprofit clients, as well as employee benefit plans. He holds both a Master of Accountancy and a Bachelor of Business Administration with a concentration in Finance from the University of New Mexico.

Carlos Aguilera to Senior Audit Associate II in Albuquerque. A member of REDW’s National Tribal Practice Group, Carlos specializes in providing audit and advisory services for tribal governments and their related entities, with additional experience with single audits. He has a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a concentration in Accounting from the University of New Mexico.

Marcus BenallyMarcus Benally to Senior Audit Associate II in Phoenix. Marcus has worked with and served the needs of numerous tribal clients. His experience includes financial statement and single audits of federal programs for tribal governments, tribal gaming enterprises. An enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, he holds a B.A. in Accounting from New Mexico State University and an MBA from Gonzaga University.

Alex Mercer to Audit Associate II in Albuquerque. Since originally joining REDW in 2017 as an Audit Intern, Alex has continued to assist with single audits, audits of employee benefit plans, including 401(k) and defined benefit pension plans, and with performing internal control and substantive testing. Alex holds both a Master of Accountancy and Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from the University of New Mexico.

Jacob Morrison to Senior Audit Associate I in Albuquerque. Originally an REDW Audit Intern, Jacob joined the firm in 2017 as an Audit Associate and has assisted with financial statement audits for tribal governments and commercial clients, agreed-upon procedures for nonprofits and preparing indirect cost proposals. He graduated cum laude from the University of New Mexico with a Bachelor’s in Accounting.

Ernesto Ramirez to Senior Audit Associate I in Phoenix. Since joining the firm in 2017, Ernesto has provided audit and consulting, agreed-upon procedures, and tax services for tribal, state and local governments, casinos, and a variety of commercial enterprises. He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration with concentrations in Accounting and Finance from the University of New Mexico.

Mukhtar Almukhtar to Audit Associate II in Phoenix. Mukhtar joined REDW’s Audit & Assurance team nearly a year ago after earning a Master of Accountancy from the W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University. He also holds a Bachelor’s in Accounting from the University of Tripoli, Libya.

Alec CarbineAlec Carbine to Audit Associate II in Phoenix. Since joining REDW’s Audit & Assurance team, Alec has assisted with single and financial statement audits in a range of industries and for several tribal clients. Previously, he gained valuable experience as a financial planning and analysis intern at the National Bank of Arizona. Alec holds a Master’s in Accounting from the University of Arizona, and is currently seeking his CPA license.

Valari Jinzo to Audit Associate II in Albuquerque. After initially joining REDW as a State and Local Tax (SALT) Accountant, bringing broad public accounting experience, Valari transitioned to serving the firm’s audit clients, where she continues to make valuable contributions. She has a Bachelor of Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting from the University of New Mexico.

Zachary Molina to Audit Associate II in Albuquerque. Zak joined the Albuquerque Audit & Assurance team in early 2019, bringing with him important client relations experience from his previous work in the financial services industry. He holds a Bachelor’s in Accounting from the University of New Mexico.

Tyne Nickel to Audit Associate II in Phoenix. After a successful internship starting in mid-2018 as an audit intern, Tyne became a permanent member of the Audit & Consulting team. Since then, he has worked on the financial statement audits of several Tribal governments, as well as assisting in auditing the financial statements of a casino. He has a Bachelor’s in Accounting and Management from the University of Kentucky and is currently pursuing his CPA license.

Jorge Ortiz to Audit Associate II in Albuquerque. Jorge joined REDW in December 2018 and brings exceptional technical skills to performing financial audits for clients. Previously, he conducted quality assurance audits and assisted with program development and training for a non-profit. With a Bachelor’s of Business Administration in Accountancy from the University of New Mexico, he is currently pursuing his CPA license.

Cora Reyes to Audit Associate II in Albuquerque.  Since joining REDW’s Audit & Assurance team in February 2019, Cora has worked as an auditor on a variety of engagements for tribal government financial statements and single audits. She holds a B.S. in Accountancy from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, and she is currently pursuing her CPA license.

Dominic Trinh to Audit Associate II in Phoenix.  Since joining REDW in March 2019, he has applied his experience in the revenue audit department of a Las Vegas casino and resort in financial statement audits and single audits for tribal government clients, and financial and compliance audits for governmental clients. He has a B.A. in Criminology, Law and Society, and a Master’s in Professional Accountancy from the University of California Irvine.

Andrea Villalobos to Audit Associate II in Phoenix. Andrea has worked on several financial statement audits for tribal governments since joining REDW’s Audit & Assurance team in June 2018. She also has assisted with indirect cost proposals for several tribal healthcare clients. She has a B.S. in Accountancy from Arizona State University and is currently pursuing her CPA license.

Omar Williams-Pope to Audit Associate II in Phoenix. Since joining REDW in early 2017, Omar has served primarily on financial statement and single audit teams for tribal government clients. In a prior internship he also assisted audits of nonprofits and employee benefit plans. Omar holds a Bachelor of Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting from the University of Arizona.

Kristian Valdez to Accounting Specialist I in Albuquerque. Kristian has acquired significant internal audit experience since joining REDW in 2016. She has performed detailed compliance testing for governmental and tribal clients, as well as audit preparation, trial balances and adjusting journal entries for tribal clients. She has an Associate degree in Business from Central New Mexico Community College.

Human Resources Consulting

Jennifer Tyler, THRP to Human Resources Consulting Associate in Albuquerque. With three years of experience in Human Resources, Jennifer supports Human Resources Consulting projects by developing reports, policies and procedures, and position descriptions.  She graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. in Economics from the University of New Mexico. She is a certified Tribal Human Resources Professional (THRP) and a member of the Navajo Nation.

Tax

Leslie Jiron, CPA to Tax Senior Manager in Albuquerque. Experienced in tax preparation for nonprofit, corporate, partnership and individual clients, Leslie is responsible for compiling data for various types of returns, communicating with clients and ensuring deadlines are met. She has a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of New Mexico.

Brandon RemleyBrandon Remley, CPA to Tax Senior Manager in Albuquerque. With a broad background of service to clients in a wide range of industries, Brandon provides experience in tax preparation and consulting regarding partnerships, corporations, individuals and nonprofits. He holds a Bachelor of Accountancy from New Mexico State University.

Jarred McMahanJarred McMahan, CPA to Tax Manager in Albuquerque. Experienced in tax preparation for nonprofit, corporate, partnership and individual clients, Jarred has now assumed a managerial role in the department. He holds a Master of Accountancy with a concentration in Taxation and a BBA with a concentration in Accounting, both from the University of New Mexico.

Rachel Coombs to Tax Senior Accountant in Phoenix. As a member of REDW’s Phoenix Tax team, Rachel prepares and reviews income tax returns for individuals, corporations and fiduciaries. She is also experienced in compiling and reviewing audited financial statements for governmental, nonprofit and various other clients. Rachel graduated cum laude with a B.S. in Accountancy from Northern Arizona University, Flagstaff.

Alison Furfie to Tax Senior Accountant in Phoenix. Since joining REDW’s Phoenix Tax team in January 2017, Alison has gained experience in business tax preparation. During her previous two years with a nonprofit organization, she provided accounts payable and individual tax preparation services. Alison holds both a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Accountancy from Grand Canyon University.

Wealth Management (REDW Wealth LLC)

Dorine SanchezDorine Sanchez, CFP, AIF to Director of Operations in Albuquerque. In her role as Director of Operations, Dorine has oversight of all daily account activity for all REDW Wealth clients. She also serves as Senior Portfolio Manager, responsible for analyzing and monitoring portfolios for current and potential clients, as well as analyzing and recommending strategies for portfolios. With the firm since 2003, Dorine is also a voting member of the REDW Wealth Investment Committee.
