The New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Department (TRD) has announced an extension for individuals and businesses affected by the recent devastating floods in Lincoln County’s Ruidoso area. This relief provides crucial breathing room for taxpayers dealing with the aftermath of this natural disaster.
What’s Extended
Taxpayers impacted by the Ruidoso floods can now file various business tax returns with normal due dates of July 25 and August 25 by October 27, 2025. Importantly, no penalties will be imposed for late filing or late payment under this extension, though state law does not permit the Department to waive interest charges.
How to Access Relief
To qualify for this extension, affected taxpayers should notify TRD by letter or email, providing supporting documentation of their affected status. This notification can be submitted before filing or after receiving a notice for late payment penalties.
Additionally, taxpayers can complete Form RPD-41096, Extension of Time to File, available on the TRD’s “Extension of Time to File” webpage. Detailed qualification requirements and additional information can be found in Bulletin 100.47 in the publications section of the Forms & Publications webpage.
