GASB Proposes Substantial Changes to Accounting and Financial Reporting
This session will explain two proposed statements of the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB), focusing on how the proposals would impact tribes and their enterprises.

• Codification of Accounting and Financial Reporting Guidance Contained in Pre-November 30, 1989 FASB and AICPA Pronouncements
• The Financial Reporting Entity, an amendment of GASB Statements No. 14 and No. 34

The “Codification of FASB Standards” is a 604 page proposal that would complete the “divorce” of governmental accounting from commercial accounting. The “GASB 14/34 amendments” proposal refines and amends how governments, including tribes, report their financial activities. If adopted, these proposals will significantly impact accounting and financial reporting by tribes and their enterprises.

The proposed statements are in the final stages of the approval process, with final approval by the GASB expected in late 2010 (Codification of FASB Standards) and early 2011 (GASB 14/34 Amendments).

This session will help you understand:

• The requirements of the proposed new standards
• How the proposed new standards will impact tribes and their enterprises
