REDW LLC, one of the Southwest’s 10 largest certified public accounting and business consulting firms, is pleased and proud to announce that one of its team members, Tax Senior Manager James A. Ortiz, is being honored as a recipient of Albuquerque Business First’s “40 Under Forty†award for 2017.

Since joining REDW in 2014, James Ortiz has established his reputation as a rising star in the State & Local Tax (SALT) field, specializing in sales and use tax, and multistate income tax. He also regularly prepares and provides audit defense for state and federal tax credit filings. Prior to joining REDW, James spent four years working at the New Mexico Taxation & Revenue Department in a variety of roles, including serving as an auditor in the Audit & Compliance Division, as well as developing internal procedures for auditing specialty refund claims.

Each year, the “40 Under Forty†award, established in 2001 by Albuquerque Business First, recognizes young, top professionals throughout New Mexico, across a wide spectrum of industries, who excel in their fields and impact their communities in positive ways. Following a rigorous nomination and evaluation process, 40 winners are chosen on the basis of professional achievement, demonstrated leadership and community involvement.

In support of his community, James actively applies his talents and expertise serving as a business advisor for both the Arrowhead Center at New Mexico State University and the Santa Fe Business Incubator, as well as lending pro bono assistance to clients of Mesilla Valley Economic Development (MVEDA). James currently serves as Secretary and Vice President of Membership for the Albuquerque Chapter of the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA), and also chairs the tax committee meetings of the New Mexico Society of CPAs. There, he helps to connect local tax practitioners with appropriate contacts within government agencies to assist in finding solutions to the complex business issues they face. In addition, James is a frequent speaker for several local organizations on various gross receipts tax topics, including at the 2016 New Mexico Tax Conference and for the National Business Institute.

On May 5, 2017, Business First will honor the recipients at the 40 Under Forty Awards Dinner and Networking Reception at the Hyatt Regency Downtown.
